The number of security operatives at the headquarters of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Zone 7, Wuse, was increased yesterday, with the Division Police Officer (DPO) of the Wuse, Zone 3 Station, CSP Ireke Sunday, joining the team of armed policemen to forestall any violence, following fears that the claimant to the presidency of the NFF, Chris Giwa and his group would take over proceedings at the NFF secretariat yesterday.
Giwa had vowed to storm the secretariat and take over proceedings on Monday, but his board meeting, held elsewhere in Abuja, shifted the plan to formally take over as the president of the NFF to Tuesday, May 10, 2016, a development that forced Sunday to leave his office and be present with his team.
Giwa’s claims followed a Jos Federal High Court ruling in April, which invalidated Amaju Pinnick’s election as the president of the NFF.
However, it was unclear, at the time of filing this report, if the increased battery of policemen had anything to do with Giwa’s decision to stay away from the ‘Glass House’ yesterday.
