What You Should Be Eating If You Want to Lose Weight

As we age and our metabolisms slow, it's easy to pack on a few pounds without realizing it. But a study has found that making consistent changes to your eating habits can lead to big weight-loss results over time.
The 2015 study, first published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, followed the dietary habits of over 120,000 people for 16 years and found that those who ate foods that had a high glycemic load (which includes refined grains, starches, and sugars) gained more weight than those who ate foods with a low glycemic load (foods such as nuts, dairy, and certain fruits and vegetables). This isn't surprising or new; other research has shown that going lower on the glycemic index (GI) scale will help you lose weight. What is interesting in the new study, however, is that other key habits can mean the difference between pounds on the scale. Check out what else the researchers found about weight gain and loss:
  • Those who ate more yogurt, seafood, skinless chicken, and nuts lost the most weight; in fact, the more people ate of these foods, the less weight they gained.
  • The researchers found, however, no difference in weight gain in those who ate low-fat vs full-fat dairy.
  • Diets with more red and processed meat intake were associated with weight gain, especially when meat was paired with refined grains or starches.
  • Eating meat paired with low-GI foods, however (like vegetables), helped reduce weight gain.
  • Eating foods like eggs and cheese along with high-GI foods was linked to weight gain, while eating these foods with low-GI foods led to weight loss.

I don’t regret walking out of my marriage – Ini Edo

I don’t regret walking out of my marriage – Ini Edo
Nollywood actress Ini Edo said she is happy to have divorced her husband
Ini Edo got married to an American based businessman, Phillip in 2008.
She allegedly walked out of the marriage in September, 2014 following accusations of domestic violence and cheating.
Speaking on ‘Rubbing Minds’ a Channel Television programme, the actress cited irresolvable differences and incompatibility as the major reasons for the crash of her marriage.
Ini Edo said that closeness should have, may be, saved her marriage since her former husband was in America and she in Nigeria.
She said, “May be being together would have helped keep us together. Because it would enable us study and understand each other more. May be it would helped but I’m not sure.

Asked if her estranged husband was comfortable with her kind of job, she said, “He met me an actress and I believe he was okay with that.
“Actually he complained. My work takes my time and interferes with so many things.
“I tried to keep my [movie] roles as decent as possible when I got married. But naturally, there are certain roles you won’t be allowed to play.
“Even when you are allowed to play them, you can reject them not just because of your husband but you got relations as well.
Asked if her former husband’s family interfered in her marriage, she added, “He was the last child, so family members will try to see if their child is doing okay.
“I try not to regret [the time I spent in marriage] but I will say, it’s been an experience I have learnt a lot from. It made me a stronger person. It made me wiser and I think it actually made me more mature.”

I Don’t Know When Pogba Will Be Available Again – Mourinho

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has admitted that he is not sure when he will be able to select Paul Pogba again. Pogba did not travel with United for Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at Tottenham, after his father passed away last Friday.

Mourinho does not expect him to be back in time for Wednesday’s trip to St Mary’s Stadium, as he will be attending the funeral.

“I don’t think [he will be available],” he said.

“I think that his dad’s funeral has to be between Tuesday and Wednesday in France.

“I don’t think Paul has conditions to play, we let him be completely free until when he’s ready to be back.”

United will take on Crystal Palace in their last Premier League game of the season, before facing Ajax in the final of the Europa League.

JAMB To Move Exam To Ilorin Over LAUTECH Students’ Protest

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Monday said it will move candidates scheduled to write their examination at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH in Ogbomoso, to Ilorin, due to students’ protest.

The UTME candidates scheduled to use the LAUTECH campus Computer Based Test (CBT) centre were prevented from gaining access to the school to write their examination scheduled for Monday morning.

The protesting students reportedly shut the school gate by 5am after the student leaders held a meeting following ongoing crisis in the institution.

They were demanding for a comprehensive academic calendar before new students are being admitted to the school.

Reacting to the mayhem JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin told newsmen that the board was concluding arrangements to reschedule the exams for the affected candidates to Ilorin.

‘We will reschedule them. Even though it’s not our problem, it’s the school’s problem, but they are our candidates.

There is no private centre in Ogbomosho and the closest centre to Ogbomosho is Ilorin. This disruption happened today and we need to do some technical arrangements first.

‘So, no date has been fixed yet. But we are going to write the exams in Ilorin except if LAUTECH resolves the students unrest’, he added.

Azpilicueta glad of Conte’s defensive changes

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta believes Antonio Conte’s decision to rebuild the team’s back line has laid the foundations for their push towards the top of the Premier League table. Conte’s side face Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday hoping to extend a run of four successive league wins since the head coach abandoned his original back four and installed a three-man central defensive unit.
That run of success –- achieved without a goal conceded — has moved the side to within a point of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool who are tied on 23 points at the top of the table.
Diego Costa’s return of eight goals in 10 league games, together with Eden Hazard’s re-emergence after a disappointing last season, has given the side an effective cutting edge, but it is the team’s solid defensive displays that have caught the eye.
Azpilicueta, who has been operating on the right side of the three-man defence, hailed Chelsea’s recent fortitude at the back.
“As a defender, obviously we are all pleased when we don’t concede goals, the same way the strikers are when they score, but I think the teamwork is really important,” he said.
“We are defending as a team, which as a defender makes it easier for us and we are trying to concede even fewer chances. This is really important to be a solid team.
“Since we changed the system it has worked well for us in the league and obviously I try to adapt to it in the best way possible.”
– Manager’s confidence –
Azpilicueta has moved inside from his usual full-back role to fit in alongside David Luiz and Gary Cahill, with club captain John Terry forced to take up a role on the bench.
And the Spain international added: “I have always felt the confidence of the manager since I arrived.

“Obviously I’m happy when the team wins and that is what I fight for. The last results were good –- four wins and we didn’t concede a goal –- so that shows a lot of teamwork and we want to keep going in that way.”
Last weekend’s win at Southampton confirmed Chelsea’s progress and Conte is expected to retain the same team for the visit of the Toffees.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has praised his players for the speed with which they have been able to improve defending at set-pieces.
The Merseysiders conceded 14 goals in the Premier League from dead-balls under Koeman’s predecessor Roberto Martinez last season.
But ahead of their visit to Stamford Bridge, they have let in just one goal from a set-play in the Premier League this term.
“Of course, it was a big issue to change this, to have better defending and better offensive set-plays,” said Koeman.
“They conceded 14 goals from set-plays last season and that’s crazy,” the Dutchman added.
“We start to show clips from last season and put a different organisation in.
“We are giving more attention to set-plays at least twice a week. We even had a meeting about Chelsea, but only about set-plays.
“You can tell the players, but the best way is to show them the clips and ask them why they didn’t defend well and why they don’t continue defending their opponent.
“You need to make the players more involved. Of course, it’s finally my responsibility but the players need to be involved in set-plays. They also feel more responsible.”
Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is fit again after a foot problem although Koeman may stick with Joel Robles.
Everton are without the suspended Idrissa Gana Gueye while James McCarthy and Leighton Baines (both hamstring) are absent.
